On August 13, 2020, our son Dylan Dorrell passed away of sudden cardiac arrest after Cross Country practice. He had been a runner since he was in 1st grade. He was 17 years old and about to start his senior year at Guyer HS. We had done the routine heart screenings through the Living for Zachary program. He had just had a physical in June. He
had no signs or symptoms that anything was wrong. He had developed scar tissue in his left ventricle as a result of a viral infection as a child. No test would have detected it. There is a 1 in a billion chance someone would die from this, but Dylan did. Please reminder to get your heart and/or your children’s hearts tested. Testing didn’t save Dylan, but it can
save others. Our mission as his parents is to now move forward and try to prevent this from happening to another child.
